Success
Oft have I brooded on defeat and pain,
The pathos of the stupid, stumbling throng.
These I ignore to-day and only long
To pour my soul forth in one trumpet strain,
One clear, grief-shattering, triumphant song,
For all the victories of man’s high endeavor,
Palm-bearing, laurel deeds that live forever,
The splendor clothing him whose will is strong.
Hast thou beheld the deep, glad eyes of one
Who has persisted and achieved? Rejoice!
On naught diviner shines the all-seeing sun.
Salute him with free heart and choral voice,
‘Midst flippant, feeble crowds of spectres wan,
The bold, significant, successful man.

No End To Success
Success is not the triumph over regress,
Success is the power to suppress.
Success is not the money or the fame,
Success is, knowing you are still the same.
Success is not the power or the pride.
Success is the knowing how to hide.
Success is not a gift or gain,
Success is accepting and believing in your name.
Success is not a point or goal to seek,
Success is, believing you have never reached the peak.
By Jeff Rushton.

The Stairway To Success
Success is like a staircase
we are bound to climb
There are big steps and small steps
in front or behind
That is why we cannot notice
then later on, we will
We obviously cannot step back
or else we could get killed
It’s the hard work that is fulfilling
and not at all the prize
For any treasure in this journey
is all the sacrifice
There are always trips and slips
in the stairway to success
This staircase is
a challenge
that we will not forget
By Shakespeare.

Comfort Zone
I use to have a Comfort Zone
Where I knew I couldn't fail
The same four walls of busy work
Were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things
I'd never done before,
But I stayed inside my Comfort Zone
And paced the same old floor.
I said it didn't matter,
That I wasn't doing much
I said I didn't care for things
Like diamonds, furs and such.
I claimed to be so busy
With the things inside my zone,
But deep inside I longed for
Something special of my own.
I couldn't let my life go by,
Just watching others win.
I held my breath and stepped outside
And let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength
I'd never felt before,
I kissed my Comfort Zone "goodbye"
And closed and locked the door.
If you are in a Comfort Zone,
Afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were
At one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise,
Can make your dreams come true.
Greet your future with a smile,
Success is there for you!

You Can
If You Believe You Can, You Can
If you think you are beaten--you are.
If you think you dare not--you don't.
If you want to win but think you can't,
It is almost a cinch you won't.
If you think you'll lose--you've lost.
For out in the world we find
That success begins with a fellow's will;
It's all in the state of mind.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man;
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the one who thinks he can.

Merindui buku
Inilah denai jejak seni ke hati,
puncak fikir yang indah sekali,
tanpa himpunan ilmu di kalbu buku
kita tak sempat sampai ke mercu itu.
Di sini diri sentiasa di taman
menikmati unggas dan puspa menawan;
di sinilah vista buku saraf seni,
meranum akal mematang peribadi.
Kita wajar berpesta di kalbu buku
menghayati nikmatnya seindah syahdu
dalam tenang waktu khusyuk di pustaka
lebih cepat kita terasuh dewasa.
Buku adalah denyut nadi utama
penting bagi minda waras manusia;
dan buku juga gema fakir yang sakti,
nyaman dan mesranya sebuah simfoni.
Kita memupuk insan yang luhur budi
melalui tapisan hikmat berseni;
dan buku memang tasik aneka ilmu
yang perlu diselami sejujur kalbu.
Buku mengasuh diri sasa bersuara;
membaca menjadi jambatan bertuah
kita merindu buku dan ghairah baca
agar sentiasa canggih dan berhemah.

Dalam Librari
Dalam librari
aku tersengguk
seorang tua
tersenyum menegur:
Tak guna
membuka buku
menutup mata.
Kan elok
menutup buku
membuka mata?
Mulai esoknya
dalam librari
ku tak pernah
tersengguk lagi
walau orang tua
sudah lama
tiada kusua
Dalam librari
kini ku membaca,
mataku sering
ke kerusi orang tua
yang sudah tiada

Janda Setinggan
Hari lahirnya Jumaat lalu
lipan menyengat telunjuk kirinya.
Dan dalam matanya yang letih berpusar
asap dan debu. Dunianya amat sedu.
Sesekali angin berang merentap baju
di tengkuknya terserlah pulau panau.
Derita kembaii menderu.
Katanya: Derita itu aku.
Dirinya cemas diterjah usia
dalam kabus belasungkawa -
dia tergigau hampir seminggu
diancam lipan, angin dan debu yang sama.
Desa bahagia, derita.
Katanya: Derita itu aku.
Antara jamban dan dapur
di sisi parit tohor
hari mukanya sabut, tin dan lumpur.
Kalut mega direnungi; kenyit
kilat tak berbunyi. Memang telinga
kirinya kini tuli.
Terjulur pegaga segar dan
ketip ketam cergas mencakar
dalam bakul kenangannya:
sanggul-molek-punggung-cantik
ulam kehidupan zaman penjajah
terlucut colinya suatu pagi
dia dicantasi janji lelaki -
dirinya bukan perawan lagi.
Cinta dan sejarah
mencakar langsir dan mencekau pintunya
menyembur bara mantera
“Aku teringat pandang pertama.”1
Untuk apa? Hingga bila?
Dihantar rayu-resah Sanisah Huri
diterimanya lesu-lara dendang R. Azmi
simfoninya rimba duri
disergah arus mimpi.
Dia yakin di situ
segala tersumpah sebagai batu;
menjadi lebih pasti, sesekali
disentap semboyan kereta api.
Dalam dakapan cubit tak sakit
dia tertipu empat kali
dia setinggan janda berganda
tercemar di belakang kereta.
Tapi, mimpi akhirnya pangsapuri
taman-mini-kolam-mandi
geli hatinya sepagi, kerana
dirinya bas mini
mendesah ke Dayabumi
bersaing rezeki. Dan
sejak anak tunggalnya mati
hikayatnya gunung ngeri,
kehidupannya puisi elegi.
Lalu, di larik bibir
gincu tak seri;
di bawah kenanga
bau tak wangi;
di sisi lampu
bayangtakjadi.
Dia diejek usia, diserapah cinta
empat kali dia terbelah.
Disedari dirinya janda
dijerat rindu -
perahu sepi diagah sunyi
antara Bidong dan Langkawi.
Dia belajar bahagia
di sisi lilin dan kucing yang lara.
Jumaat lalu, di tengah gempa Armenia,
dirai hari lahirnya -
bertunda rekod R. Azmi, käset Sanisah Huri,
berlumba kenangan meracuninya.
Dia terbiasa -
dalam cahaya malamnya siang,
dalam gelita siangnya malam.
Dan kini semakin
payah dikenalnya bila
jantan insan-hewani, bila
pula hewani-insani.
Lelaki tak dipercaya lagi.
Sejak itu bergilir tetangga
mengadapnya - sedu dalam ayat syahdu
Dan ketika racaunya sampai ke puncak
Tujuh kali dia tersentak.
Darah, najis dan muntah saling mengasak.
Dalam biliknya berdinding akhbar,
tingkap berkiut, lantai berlumut
dia mengucap semput.
Tercungap. Tersentap. Terhenti.
Matinya di sisi sisa nasi,
Rehal retak, subang pengantin, foto anak.
Tak mungkin jantan menipunya lagi!

Love
Love is like a lump of gold,
Hard to get, and hard to hold.
Of all the girls I've ever met,
You're the one I can't forget.
I do believe that God above,
Created you for me to love.
He chose you from all the rest,
Because he knew I would love you best.

For You Are The One
For you I would climb
The highest mountain peak
Swim the deepest ocean
Your love I do seek.
For you I would cross
The rivers most wide
Walk the hottest desert sand
To have you by my side.
For you are the one
Who makes me whole
You've captured my heart
And touched my soul.
For you are the one
That stepped out of my dreams
Gave me new hope
Showed me what love means.
For you alone
Are my reason to live
For the compassion you show
And the care that you give.
You came into my life
And made me complete
Each time I see you
My heart skips a beat.
For you define beauty
In both body and mind
Your soft, gentle face
More beauty I'll ne'er find.
For you are the one
God sent from above
The angel I needed
For whom I do love.

Envy Of A Bird
Sitting here this evening
I'm wishing I were a bird
And all my chirping songs
Would around the world be heard.
I could use my very special wings
To soar so far and high
I would fly above the tallest trees
And head toward the sky.
I wouldn't stay up for very long
That wouldn't be my style
I'd stop along my journey
And visit feeders for awhile.
So, keep the feeders full of seeds
For one day out of the blue
When I need to stop and rest a bit
I might come and visit you.

The Garden
From the depths of the earth
They rise again
At first you hardly notice
Then you see a stem
They reach higher every day
Thirsty for rain, hungry for sun
Waiting for the day they are done
When the color peaks they look the best
So we gaze at our garden
While we rest

Dad
I am here, saith the Lord
Do not despair
Hear what I say, see so much more
No more than you can handle will I give you to bear
Your Dad is now with me
He is doing great
He is full of mirth, we can all see
He keeps my angels smiling and in such a state!
They listen to all his stories
Moses, Jacob and Abraham stand amazed
At all the blessings and glories
This one man so easily phrased
Yes, we blessed him greatly while he was on earth
Now he is here blessing and praising us
Onward Christian Soldiers, he sings with mirth
With a twinkle in his eyes and heart full of trust
He knows we will take care of his family still on earth
He asks that we will comfort them and give them peace
I've known them and cared for them, we said, since birth.
Your Dad is doing well, dear family
so fill your empty hearts with peace.

Perfect Mother
I'm not the perfect mother, and this I know is true
I never really took the time to tell you I love you,
I always wanted perfect, the bedrooms and the plates
I never really took the time to stop and appreciate.
I always was too busy,I never really looked,
I expected way too much from you,
even made you read your own books.
I know you saw the mothers who made lemonade and cakes,
who always really took the time to stop and to relate.
You all are young men now i know its much to late.
I wish I was the mother who stopped to make a date.
To make a date to be there,to giggle and to play,
to only worrie what else to do and never hesitate.
I know I hardly said it but this I know is true:
I hope you do believe me when I say that I love You!

A True Friend
A true friend never walks away
A true will always stay
A true friend looks out for you
A true friend will guard your secrets
Like a precious gift
A true friend is there for you
To give you a helpful lift
A true friend tries to make you smile
Tries to replace that frown
They may not always succeed
But they rarely let you down
These arms for you are open
This heart for you does care
And when I think you need me
I'll try to always be there
I'll listen to your fears
I promise not to laugh
Comfort your falling tears
I'll make this friendship last
I'll keep you near to my heart
I'll always hold you dear
Even when we're miles apart
Even when you're here
I hope I am to you
Everything you are to me
For the friendship we have
Is a special one indeed.

Thank You
You made me remember the good times
When i could only remember the bad
You promised me a return
Of the peace i long ago had
You never left me alone
When that was what i wrongly thought i needed
You never dwelt on my faults
Instead you pointed out when i had succeeded
You made me laugh
When i felt i would cry
You made me live
When i wished to die.
